WCSG
- The 2019 ARA Erg Championships, marked the first opportunity for prospective athletes to pull a qualifying erg time to garner an invite to the 2019 WCSG Selection Camp. Invites are extended to those athletes who have achieved a 2K erg standard of 7:05 (men) and 8:05 (Women) between March 9, 2019 and May 24, 2019.
- Results from this past weekend showed that 6 women and 9 men have hit the standard to date with a number of athletes just off the mark. To those of you who have bettered the 2K mark, congratulations! You have secured an invite to both the selection camp and as well on-water Invermere camp. To those who came just short, keep following the training plan your coach has designed for you. The results will come.
- An on-water training camp in Invermere, British Columbia has been tentatively organized for April 13 & 14, 2019. We say tentatively as web cams from the region show the water to be rather stiff at the present time, but are hopeful that warmer weather ahead will see us rowing in early April. The camp is for those WCSG athletes who have met the qualifying erg standard. The ARA covers all costs associated with the camp with the exception of food. Stay tuned for details.
- To assist athletes in hitting the aforementioned standard the ARA will continue distributing a monthly erg challenge where athletes from across the province can compete against one another and compare their scores via an online google document. A new challenge has been posted online.
- The ARA is now accepting applications for qualified coaches, managers and boat men/women to accompany Team Alberta to the 2019 WCSG in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. If you are interested in applying for one of these positions please email the writer at albertarowing@gmail.com
ARA Erg Championships
The ARA thanks the Central Alberta Rowing Club for once again hosting a successful erg championship this past weekend. Despite the snow-covered roads, over 150 athletes participated in this year’s event. The writer recalls events only a few short years ago where the ARA struggled to get 90+ athletes registered for the event. The level of interest in our sport throughout Alberta is very encouraging and is a testament to the quality of volunteers, coaches and officials that are found all across this province. Results from the event have been distributed to your coaches. Should you wish to obtain a copy of the results please get in touch with them.
