2021 CSG Camp
As was communicated earlier this month, the ARA has made the difficult decision to cancel its spring camp in Inververe, British Columbia. The ARA acknowledges that the on-going COVID -19 pandemic has caused a significant disruption to our preparations for the Games; but we at the ARA do see a light at the end of the tunnel. With the on-going vaccination program, life will eventually return to normal; and we want to be prepared when that day comes.
We encourage all of our athletes to remain positive and to not lose hope. The 2022 Canada Summer Games are only 15 months away and we are hopeful that all clubs across the province will be on the water in a few short weeks and with that brighter days are ahead.
Every Coach Certified
The ARA reminds all of our coaches on the importance of meeting the requirements set out under RCA’s Every Coach Certified Initiative. Coaches had until March 31, 2021 to meet the requirements set forth by RCA. Anyone interested in coaching this summer; and who has not met the requirements as of yet is encouraged to do so ASAP. Details on this initiative are described in this link https://rowingcanada.org/uploads/2020/11/Coach-Education-Update-Fall-2020.pdf
U23 World Championships
Canada’s participation in the U23 World Championships is still unknown – however, in speaking to those within RCA, should Canada decide to send crews to this year’s event selections will be unlike anything we have seen before. In previous years RCA would hold an open on-water selection event and the top performers from the regatta would be formally invited to a selection camp. This year, RCA cannot carry out such an event for obvious reasons and will be selecting athletes based on erg score and past performance.
ARA athletes who wish to be considered for a spot on this team are encouraged to speak with the writer directly who can outline the erg requirements. Should your score be in line with RCA’s expectations we can put you in touch with an official within RCA.
Upcoming Events
On-Water Season – At clubs across the province – May 1, 2021 or sooner.
