2022 National Rowing Championships
The 2022 National Rowing Championships (NRC) held on November 11&12 on Quamichan Lake, British Columbia once again demonstrated Alberta’s prominence within the sport of rowing. Consider the following:
- 32 athletes represented Alberta – its second largest team in the history of the regatta (37 athletes represented Alberta at the 2021 NRC Event)
- Alberta finished the regatta with 8 medals, more than every province but for Ontario and British Columbia
- The 8 medals were Alberta’s second best showing at an NRC event (2021 Alberta won 9 medals). However, the 2021 event was largely void of Olympic and World Championship athletes making Alberta’s performance at this year’s event even more remarkable.
- Alberta was one of only four provinces to win medals in a Senior Open Event (B.C, Ontario and Quebec being the others).
- Four different Alberta boats finished in the top ten in the Open Women’s pair event (more top 10 finishes than any other province in this event)
- Alberta won medals in every able body discipline (Men /Women) sweep and sculling events.
Medal winners were as follows:
Silver:
Gaby Yarema / Rachel Weber (Western)- U23 Women’s Pair
Ainsley Salmon / Kaliya Javra -Junior Women’s Pair
Andrew Hubbard – U23 Men’s Single
Karissa Riley – U23 Women’s Light Single
Curtis Ames / Jacub Buczek (Ontario) – Open Men’s Pair
Bronze
Andrew Hubbard – Open Men’s Single
Karissa Riley – Open Women’s Light Single
Shaye de Paiva – U23 Women’s Single
In summary an incredible achievement by Team Alberta. Congratulations to all athletes who participated.
