January Bulletin

Happy New Year!

A Happy New Year to all of our coaches, officials and athletes.  We at the ARA hope that we can build upon our successes that our clubs and university programs witnessed in 2025 and make 2026 an even more memorable year than the last.

2026 Rowing Calendar
For the first time since the COVID 19-pandemic, there are no inter-provincial regattas on the regatta calendar (I.E Team Alberta) thus limiting the ARA’s involvement in competitive programming this year.  All this said, you can be sure that the ARA will be involved in athlete development through Next Gen programming and as well various camp offerings we have planned for the upcoming season.  While the 2026 rowing calendar is a living document that can change relatively quickly athletes should be aware of the following dates on the regatta schedule.

Rowing Canada Coaches Conference

The Rowing Canada Coaches Conference is an annual gathering of coaches, officials, volunteers and athletes from across the country to learn about all things rowing.  Once again the 2026 conference will be held virtually thus providing everyone the opportunity to hear from leading experts in the sport of rowing right from your living room at a very reasonable price.   We at the ARA believe this is a tremendous opportunity for all interested to hear from a worldwide panel of experts within our sport.   Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to follow the link https://rowingcanadaaviron.regfox.com/2026-rowing-canada-aviron-national-conference

Rowing Stories

True story, this scribe ergs over the winter in an effort to maintain some semblance of fitness.  To get him through those some of those more difficult erg workouts, he often watches uplifting rowing videos.  Some of those videos, have been shared through this platform, but there are others that seemingly get lost over time.   One of those videos that was somehow erased from this writer’s memory was a famous video from the early 2000’s until this past weekend when it resurfaced from a discussion.  While not a story in any shape or form, if you look closely you can find some alumni from our province that continue to be active in our sport today.  I am sure some of you have seen this in the past but for those who have not the link is provided.  It certainly is motivating and has this writer thinking of doing two workouts today.  Warning of some profanity.
