Lakeland Camp:
As communicated in past submissions the Lakeland Rowing Camp is open to all registered ARA athletes.  The camp will be held from July 21 to 23 in Vermilion, Alberta and are hopeful that as many athletes as possible will attend.  We promise to make it with your while.  If you haven’t already registered and are interested in doing so, please email Kati White at katiwhite@gmail.com 

National Rowing Championships
The 2023 National Rowing Championships will be held from September 29th through to October 1, 2023 on Quamichan Lake in Duncan, British Columbia.  Once again, the ARA will be providing funding assistance to qualified athletes to assist in attending this event.  The ARA intends to distribute its selection / funding document in the coming month. 

May Recap
The 2023 season has just begun and already Alberta athletes are starting to make their mark.  Some of the highlights from this first month are:

  • Jessica Sevick, Kasia Gruchella Wesierski and Curtis Ames have been selected to represent Canada at World Cup II in Varese Italy from June 16-18, 2023
  • A number of Calgary athletes were recognized at the 2023 Calgary Booster Club Sports Gala.  Sonia Popa, Monroe LaRochelle and Anna-Theresa von Hoensbroech were the recipients of a Bob Freeze Sports Grant while Shaye dePaiva, Karissa Riley, Gaby Yarema and Andrew Hubbard were recognized with an Art Smith Endowment Grant. 
  • Congratulations to the Edmonton Rowing Club for hosting a successful boat race earlier this month.  The 2023 event was the first time the boat race had been held since 2017. 
  • Seven Alberta athletes have been formally invited to compete for spots on the U23 National Team. Final selection to the team will be determined later this month.
  • Alberta Clubs are now in full swing with the Regina Sprints regatta now just days away.
