2019 WESTERN CANADA SUMMER GAMES
The Western Canada Summer Games (WCSG) is a multi-sport inter-provincial competition held every 4 years that provides development opportunities for amateur athletes.  The 2019 Games are to be held in Swift Current, Saskatchewan and will represent the first opportunity our athletes have to showcase their talents in the lead-up to the 2021 Canada Summer Games. The ARA recognises the development opportunities that arise from the WCSG and with the opening ceremonies now only 16 months away we are beginning to take steps to prepare our U18 athletes (As at December 31, 2018).   With this in mind the ARA is looking to host an introductory camp in late August – early September 2018 which will assist athletes with their preparations in the year to come.  Stay tuned.

May Recap
While it took some time for Alberta Rowers to get on the water the month of May proved to be a good start for Alberta’s athletes. Some of the highlights from this past month included:

  • Jeremy Hall of Edmonton, Alberta competing in his first international rowing regatta took home a bronze medal in the PR2 single sculls event at the Para Rowing International Regatta in Gavirate, Italy.  Gavirate was the first international regatta where athletes raced 2,000m.  The Para Rowing distance was changed from 1,000m to 2,000m following the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio.
  • Alberta’s own Central Alberta Rowing Club was highlighted in a May 2018 article written by Todd Vaughan of the Red Deer Press.  The article can be found via the following link:
