CSG UPDATE
A reminder to all athletes that 2,000m Erg Submissions up to May 31, 2017 will be used by the ARA to determine invitees to the 2017 CSG Selection Camp on June 2, through 4 in Calgary, Alberta. As has been reported in previous ARA Submissions, attendance at the June Selection Camp will be by invite only and will only be granted to those athletes who have met an aggressive erg standard. The standards in case anyone may have forgotten are as follows:
- Heavy Men – 6:30
- Light Men – 6:50
- Heavy Women – 7:30
- Light Women – 7:50
To those athletes who hit the previously reported standard we commend you. Keep up the good work! The ARA will be distributing an outline of the Selection camp in the next few weeks to invited athletes and their respective coaches.
THE BOAT RACE
After a one-year hiatus the Boat Race which contests Edmonton and Calgary rowers in 8+’s over a winding course through our provincial capital returns to the North Saskatchewan River in 2017. In the three first years of the event, Edmonton held a slight margin over Calgary in the men’s event winning in 2013 and 2015, while Calgary holds a slight edge on the women’s side taking home first place on two separate occasions. Interestingly enough no club has been able to win both the men’s and women’s races in the same year. Will 2017 be different? We will find out on May 27, 2017 in Edmonton, Alberta.

RCA Speed Orders
Alberta will be well represented at the 2017 RCA Speed Order Regatta in Burnaby, British-Columbia from May 12 through 14th. The ARA has proudly boasted for the past number of years that our athletes are amongst the nations best and with 13 athletes in attendance with ties to Alberta the numbers back up our claims.
Best of luck to all Alberta athletes. Race hard!
Invermere
This year over 55 athletes from across Alberta descended upon the Columbia Valley for a weekend rowing camp in Invermere, British-Columbia. While the first day of the camp was not as nice as many of us have been accustomed to in years past, Sunday provided our athletes with an amazing backdrop that this writer won’t soon forget. It was a pretty unbelievable experience.
