Lakeland Camp:
As communicated in past submissions the Lakeland Rowing Camp is open to all registered ARA athletes.  The camp will be held from July 21 to 23 in Vermilion, Alberta and are hopeful that as many athletes as possible will attend.  We promise to make it with your while.  If you haven’t already registered and are interested in doing so, please email Kati White at katiwhite@gmail.com 

National Rowing Championships
The 2023 National Rowing Championships will be held from September 29th through to October 1, 2023 on Quamichan Lake in Duncan, British Columbia.  Those interested in attending this event should pay particular attention to the selection document which is being distributed in conjunction with this notice and can be found here.

June Recap
Some of the highlights from this past month are:

  • Jessica Sevick and Kasia Gruchella Wesierski were part of Canada’s women’s 8+ that took home the Remenham Cup at the prestigious Henley Regatta at Henley on Thames England.  Meanwhile Curtis Ames and Canada’s Men’s 8+ crew were finalists in the Grand Challenge Cup at the very same regatta.
  • Five Alberta athletes are competing at the World Cup III in Lucerne Switzerland from July 7-9, 2023.  Jessica Sevick and Kasia Gruchella Wesierski are racing in the Women’s eight, Karissa Riley in the Lightweight Women’s Single, Curtis Ames in the Men’s 8+ and Alex Ewashko in the Men’s 4-
  • Andrew Hubbard, Bob Bryden, Karissa Riley, Axel Ewashko and Alex Marchuk were nominated to Canada’s U23 National Team.  On the Men’s side Andrew will be racing in the Men’s Double, Bob will race in the Men’s pair and Axel will compete in the Men’s four.  Karissa Riley will be competing in the Lightweight Women’s Single.  Alex will serve as one of the team’s coaches.  The U23 World Championships will be held from July 19-23 in Plodiv Bulgaria.

  • Archer LaRochelle from the Calgary Rowing Club finished in third place in the Men’s Sr Lwt Single at the CSSRA Regatta in St. Catharines Ontario. 
  • Congratulations to the Calgary Rowing Club for hosting a successful 2023 Alberta Open.
