ARA Erg Championship
There was a time when the writer would challenge athletes across the province to register for the ARA Erg Championships.  If 100+ athletes registered, the provincial technical director agreed to pull an erg himself.   On account of the tremendous effort of our clubs, coaches officials, volunteers to grow the sport in our province the writer is pleased to say that he no longer has to humiliate himself to spark interest in the ARA Erg Championships.  This year over 160 athletes have registered to date, which is truly a testament to the growth of our sport over the past couple of years.

This year’s event is slated to take place on Saturday March 10, 2018 at the Blackfalds Field House just north of Red Deer.  If you have not already registered but plan to do so simply inform your club coach and they will take care of the rest.  The cost to register is $25, which includes an incredibly fashionable ARA T-shirt.

RCA Coaches Conferenc
At the 2018 RCA Coaches Conference in Toronto, Ontario conference attendees were hosted to a unique opportunity to hear from some of the world’s brightest minds in the sport of rowing.  The event concluded with an awards banquet where a number of Albertans were recognized for their service to the sport of rowing. Richard Galway was recognized for his 15 years of service to our sport, Carol Hermansen was recognized for her 20 years of service and Will King for 35 years of service.  Congratulations to all three individuals

Athlete of the Year
Nicole Hare, a longtime CRC and ARA athlete, has been nominated for the Calgary Booster Club, Henry Viney – Female Athlete of the Year Award.  Nicole was nominated for this award on account of her incredible achievements in 2017 culminating with a Silver medal at the 2017 Senior World Championships in the Women’s eight.

While we at the ARA are pleased to see Nicole be nominated for this award we now need your help.  To assist Nicole in taking home this award we need ARA members to go online to  www.calgaryboosterclub.com/vote and vote for Nicole.  Please vote.
