Somba K’e Paddling Club

The Somba K’e Paddling Club (SKPC) was established in 1999 and is a registered not-for-profit organization operating in Yellowknife, NT.

Our mission is to develop and promote paddling in all its forms in the Yellowknife area for folks of all ages and experience levels. We are committed to promoting access to paddling sports that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion for people of all races, religions, genders, and sexual orientations.

The SKPC focuses on access and development of paddling routes; education and instruction of skills, and safety; respect for the land and water; and community-building for Yellowknife paddlers. We strive to collaborate with local businesses and non-profit organizations to promote outdoor activities and a diversified recreational industry. To achieve this mission, we maintain a small fleet of canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards and 7 rowing shells so paddlers from many sport disciplines can develop the skills and strengths required for safety, technical competency, athletic excellence, and fun.

Through activities held across the seasons, the SKPC provides our membership opportunities to try paddling sports and develop skills by hosting workshops and providing coaching for canoeing, kayaking, and rowing. As well, the SKPC hosts our signature race, specifically the Latham Island Race, to promote healthy competition at the community level.
