January Monthly Bulletin

Happy New Year!

A Happy New Year to all of our coaches, officials and athletes.  We at the ARA hope that we can build upon our successes that our clubs and university programs witnessed in 2022 and make 2023 an even memorable year than last.

A World without CSG or WCSG
As we move into 2023, the ARA enters a time frame where we our focus will not be on the preparation of a multi-sport games.  While we are disappointed that a multi-sport games is not on the immediate horizon, we do see a number of exciting opportunities for athletes of all ages within our sport. 2023 is a qualifying year for the 2024 Olympics.  Santiago, Chile is playing host to the 2023 Pan-American Games and we know that Alberta athletes will play a role in Canada’s success at these games.  Calgary and Edmonton will both be looking to better their performances at the 2023 Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in St. Catharines, Ontario.  There are the 2023 National Rowing and Canadian University Rowing Championships.  Don’t forget about the U23 and Junior Spring Trials in May of 2023.  Talks are on-going about the resurrection of the Canada Cup Regatta.   Closer to home, we remain hopeful that we will see Alberta athletes compete at Regina Sprints this coming year and of course there are local events here in Alberta.

What ever your goals are this summer, some of the regatta’s /events that Alberta athletes should look forward to this year are

The 2023 Canadian University Rowing Championships – November 2023
2023 Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in St. Catharines, Ontario – August 2023
2023 World Rowing Championships  – Belgrade Serbia – September 3-10, 2023

We at the ARA are hopeful that our athletes can achieve considerable success in 2023, but know that it won’t be easy.  It takes plenty of hard work, which begins in January. As the saying goes,

“Medals are won in the summer but earned in the winter.”

Rowing Canada Coaches Conference

The Rowing Canada Coaches Conference is an annual gathering of coaches, officials, volunteers and athletes from across the country to learn about all things rowing.  The 2023 conference represents the first time in three years that coaches will be able to congregate in person.  We at the ARA believe this is a tremendous opportunity for all interested to hear from a worldwide panel of experts within our sport.   Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to follow the link https://events.eply.com/2023RCAConferenceEN3369896
