April 2022 Monthly Bulletin

Invermere
For the first time in nearly five years the ARA will be hosting a training camp in Invermere B.C from Friday April 22nd through to Sunday April 24th.    While the camp will be designed to assist athletes in preparing for U23 Trials and CSG selection camps, it will be open to all experienced athletes* (Junior through Masters) from the province.  While the details associated with the camp continue to be worked out, the proposed itinerary at time of writing is as follows:

Friday April 22nd

11:00am – Boats depart Calgary for Invermere.

3:00pm – Optional Row for interested athletes in Invermere

4:00pm –   Second departure time from Calgary and Edmonton for CSG athletes

11:00pm – CSG Athlete curfew

Saturday April 23nd

7:00am – All athletes meet in Invermere to rig boats

8:00am – 10:30am – Row #1 on Windermere Lake

11:00am to 1:00pm – Lunch

1:00pm to 3:30pm – Row #2 on Windermere Lake

4:00pm to 10:30pm – Free Time / Dinner

11:00pm – CSG Athlete Curfew

Saturday April 24th

7:00am – 9:30am – Row #1 on Windermere Lake

9:30am to 10:30am – Athlete Break

10:30am to 12:30pm – Row #2 on Windermere Lake

12:30pm to 2:00pm – Load Trailer

2:00pm – Athletes depart Invermere

5:00pm Arrival time in Calgary

CSG and Junior Athletes who wish to attend must declare their intent by emailing albertarowing@gmail.com.  Master and Senior athletes* who wish to attend please inform your respective coaches.  Do note that senior and Master athletes will be responsible for their own transportation to and accommodation in Invermere.  The ARA will make arrangements for accommodation for all Junior / CSG aged athletes. 

*Please note that athletes who wish to attend must be proficient rowers capable of rowing in all types of conditions (Any exceptions must be granted by the ARA)

Canada Summer Games Updates

  •    The Canada Summer Games Selection Camp will be held in Calgary, Alberta from Friday June 17th through to Sunday June 19th
  •    Attendance at the camp is by invite only for athletes who meet certain erg deliverables.  The deliverables have been well communicated in past ARA reports.  Athletes will have until Saturday June 11th to meet the erg deliverable.
  •    The ARA will be holding a 2K Erg Event for all prospective CSG Athletes across Alberta on Saturday April 30thAll CSG athletes are expected to pull a 2K test on this date.  For those in Calgary the test will take place at 9:00am or 9:30am.  
  •   The coaches for the 2022 Canada Summer Games will be Alex Marchuk and Jenny McGuinness.  

SPRING TRIALS REGATTA

The Spring Trials regatta is designed to provide a competitive experience for athletes early in the season and will serve as an entry point for athletes (Junior, U23 and Senior) who wish to be considered for RCA’s 2022 National Teams.  Alberta based athletes who wish to be considered for RCA Teams; most specifically U23 World’s and Junior World Championships are highly encouraged to attend. 

The Spring Trials regatta held from May 6-8 in Duncan B.C is open to all interested Canadian athletes.   If you wish to attend and need assistance in finding boats, accommodation and/or general assistance please email albertarowing@gmail.com.  We the ARA can put you in touch with those coaches who are attending.
