March 2022 Monthly Bulletin

ARA Erg Championships

For the first time in two years the Central Alberta Rowing Club was able to host an “in-person” Indoor Erg Championships in Blackfalds, Alberta.   Great to see so many aspiring Novice athletes in action and reacquaint with many familiar faces that we have not seen for almost 24 months now.  Despite the trials many of us have faced over the last two years, it is apparent the sport of rowing is in good shape in our province with over 100+ athletes in attendance and a number of personal best performances.  The ARA commends our coaches, officials, volunteers and clubs for keeping our athletes engaged over the past two years.  Your efforts have not gone unnoticed.   The ARA thanks the Central Alberta Rowing Club for once again hosting this event in 2022.  The 2022 ARA Erg Championships just may have been the best one yet!  Results from the event are posted online under the link: https://www.regattacentral.com/regatta/results.jsp?job_id=7717

Invermere

For the first time in nearly five years the ARA intends on hosting a training camp in Invermere B.C at the end of April 2022.  While the camp will be designed to assist athletes in preparing for U23 Trials and CSG selection camps, it will be open to all experienced athletes* (Junior through Masters) from the province.  Do note that at this time the ARA has not finalized the date for this camp but can confirm it will either take place April 22-24, 2022 Or April 29-May 1, 2022.

Coach Education

Coaches interested in obtaining certification to become RCA Coach Certified must complete both RCA Coach Weekend #1 and RCA Coach Weekend #2.  For the first time in nearly twelve months a RCA Virtual Coach Weekend 1 Module will be held over three consecutive Sundays starting March 20 and running through to April 3, 2022 from 3-7pm MST.  Coaches interested in participating in this coaching education program are encouraged to contact albertarowing@gmail.com

Sports Media

In the age of digital media, it is difficult to find well written local sport stories that are outside of North America’s four major professional sport leagues.  The Calgary Booster Club is looking to change this, with a number of well written stories of local athletes / coaches making a difference within their sport of choice.  Please visit the following link to read just a few of these articles. https://calgaryboosterclub.com/stories/
